The second phase of the Swimming Pool Support Fund, which has been launched by Sport England to help operators with utility costs, is now open to applications from swimming pool operators in Huntingdonshire.

This phase sees a total of £60 million of funding (£40 million from government and £20 million from Sport England) being made available for local authorities to invest in improving the energy efficiency of public facilities with pools in the medium to long term.

It follows the £20 million revenue phase of the Swimming Pool Support Fund (SPSF), which opened to applications earlier in the summer and is now closed, with funding decisions expected by the end of this month.

The fund is open to local authorities in England that have at least one publicly accessible swimming pool, that offers pay-as-you-swim sessions, that would benefit from improved energy efficiency as a result of this support.

Any operators within Huntingdonshire that provide swimming pool provision to the public that want to apply for the funding must do so via their local authority. All expressions of interest should be sent to Gregg.Holland@huntingdonshire.gov.uk and Leigh.Allaker@huntingdonshire.gov.uk by 1 October 2023.

The closing date for applications is 17 October 2023.

Please provide the following information:

  1. The name and address of your organisation and swimming pool wishing to apply for funding

  2. Confirmation that a programme of activity is delivered from the swimming pool operated, for members of the public

  3. How many swimming pools you operate

  4. A contact name.

Sport England will administer the scheme on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, which is providing the money. The fund is being made available in two phases:

  • Phase 1: £20 million revenue to support facilities with swimming pools with increased cost pressures

  • Phase 2: £40 million capital to improve the energy efficiency of public facilities with pools in the medium to long term along with £20 million of lottery funding.

More information on the second phase can be found on the Sport England website along with details on the application process.
