Huntingdonshire District Council has been named as having a top rated website in a recent independent assessment of all local authority websites. Only 36 out of 416 councils received the top mark of 4 stars. The 'Better Connected' review tests every local authority website to see if customers can complete popular tasks online, use the website on their mobile and find the information they are looking for.
The survey is delivered by the Society of Information Technology Managers who carry out a rigorous series of reviews over a six month period. This year the tests looked at web pages related to Council Tax, Business Rates, Planning and Refuse/Recycling. Assessors also looked at how well the site works for people with disabilities and how well it works on mobile devices. Ongoing improvements are being made to the council’s website all the time, with better online forms, clearer content and expanded services being planned to support the 50,000 users a month who choose to access services through the council’s website.
Councillor Stephen Cawley, Executive Councillor for Transformation and Customers, said: "We are delighted our website has achieved the 4 star award. We have worked hard to transform the site to make it customer friendly and accessible by mobile and smart phone devices. It is important to the council that customers and residents can find information easily and in the flexible ways they tell us they want. This is the first time we have received this highest rating and I am really pleased that our improvements have been recognised and praised nationally."
