Eco-Schools Programme

We actively support the national Eco-Schools Programme run by Keep Britain Tidy.

The programme provides a simple framework to enable your school to analyse its operations and become more sustainable. The programme is a learning resource that raises awareness of sustainable development and citizenship issues through active involvement.

The programme has been designed to link closely to the following subjects on the National Curriculum:

  • personal, social and health education

  • education for sustainable development

  • numeracy

  • literacy

  • design and technology

  • geography

  • science

  • history.

There are currently 57 schools within Huntingdonshire participating in the programme. Of these, 16 have achieved bronze awards, 15 have gained a silver award for their progress and four have achieved the highest award of the Eco-Schools Programme, the ‘Green Flag’.

We believe that local help and support is a crucial element for any school entering the programme. We are therefore committed to providing support and assistance to schools new to the programme and those currently participating.

Further information on the programme is available on the Eco-Schools website.

Recycling facilities for schools

We provide a service to collect recyclables from all Cambridgeshire County Council-run schools in the district.

The type of container provided will depend on the size of the school and the collection arrangements. Collections are fortnightly and the school must ensure that bins are put out by 6.30am on the day of collection.
