Transport Planning

The Cambridgeshire Local Transport Plan 2006-2011 (LTP2) - This is a strategy and programme for integrated transport across Cambridgeshire covering the period 2006-2011. It has been drawn up through extensive participation, consultation and partnership working and represents a consensus of agreement between the County and District Council's of Cambridgeshire on the future transport policy for the County.

The strategy and programme contained in this document follow those contained in the LTP 2004-2011 but which have been revised to ensure full consistency with latest Government guidance.

The Plan recognises the diverse nature of our County and proposes a range of Action Plans, including Market Town Transport strategies, which aim to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors by providing people with wider travel choices. This will allow them the opportunity to travel to work, enjoy the environment, services and attractions in a way that respects the County's natural and built heritage.

We feel that there are major opportunities to develop the existing transport systems and improve accessibility in our rural district and a number of links under 'Transport and Roads' to the left-hand side of this page outline what we are doing.

The LTP and the following documents are available by following the links to the Cambridgeshire Local Transport Plan at the right-hand side of the page.

Annual Progress Report (APR) - Alongside the LTP, an APR is published each year which provides an overview of progress on delivery. The last APR was submitted to Government in July 2005.

Market Town Strategies - Included in the LTP are the approved Market Town Transport strategies (MTTS) for St. Neots and Huntingdon & Godmanchester. Work on a strategy for St. Ives is now complete and this was approved in September 2006. Actual works within St. Ives are likely to start from April 2007 but each scheme will itself be subject to separate consultation.

Please follow the link to the right where you can obtain a full copy of the draft strategy.

Long-Term Transport Strategy - This has been developed to ensure that growth can be accommodated in a sustainable way, to complement the LTP, to provide a solid base for funding bids and to support the development of the Local Development Framework process.

Accessibility Strategy - This focuses on promoting social inclusion by tackling accessibility problems within four identified Wards within the District. Initial consultation has been undertaken and a draft Action Plan is currently being formulated. Once approved by the Transport & Access Sub-Group of the Huntingdonshire Local Strategic Partnership, this will be formally submitted to Government as part of the next LTP2 Annual Progress Report.

Bus Information Strategy - This sets out a two-stage process for improving bus information.

Bus Strategy - This sets out the framework for how high quality bus services can be provided within the County.

District Council Statements - To accompany the LTP, each District Council of Cambridgeshire is required to submit a Statement demonstrating their commitment to the Plan and explaining how they propose to ensure effective implementation and focusing on what they are doing to ensure integration with other work across the Authority. The current HDC statement can be viewed on the LTP link. District Statements are also included as part of Annual Progress Reports, except for 2005.
