Huntingdonshire District Council is to consult with the Oxmoor community during a six week period starting on 9 September 2008 to hear their views on further regeneration and development opportunities in and around the area of the former Sapley Square as a first stage in helping to prepare a master plan for the area.

The proposals for further development could bring forward new community facilities and safety improvements, providing an attractive, safer environment for the community to enjoy.  Further developments in this area will build upon the successful multi-million pound regeneration programme that created a new heart for Oxmoor which included the new Oak Tree Centre adjacent to this site, an enhanced neighbourhood centre with smart new shops and community facilities, 300 family homes and the Coneygear community park and other improved green open spaces.

During this stage, there will be several opportunities for the community to engage in the process of identifying issues, coming up with ideas and considering options for developing in this area.

Following this first stage consultation, the district council will continue to communicate with the local community to keep them informed of what was said during the process by all involved and provide feedback on the issues and ideas raised.  These will then be used to help inform the development of a master plan of the area.  The master plan could result in the development of up to 60 new homes, major improvements to housing for the elderly, community managed workspace for public, private and voluntary businesses, enhanced open space and a much safer environment linking all areas together for the benefit of the local community.

The council is seeking the views of local residents and businesses and the consultation period runs from 9 September to 21 October. To find out more about the process contact Richard Probyn 01480 388430 or Claire Burton for further information on the consultations.

Councillor Peter Bucknell, Executive Councillor for Planning Strategy and Transport said; “We are looking to positively engage with the local community in the Oxmoor area.  Residents will have the opportunity to give their views and have their say on this opportunity to further enhance the Sapley area. The views received will help decide how the plan can be taken forward for the benefit of the whole community.”
