Hinchingbrooke Country Park is hosting the Annual Honey Show of Huntingdonshire BeeKeepers Association (HKBA) on Sunday 14 September 2008 starting at 12 noon.

Huntingdonshire District Council Countryside Services Ranger, Judith Arnold, said: “These fascinating insects provide us with many different products with varied uses - from furniture making to medicine.  This is an opportunity to meet some bee keepers and discover this ancient occupation in greater detail.”

There will be competition-standard exhibits including honey and candles and a huge variety of products to buy.  These will range from furniture polish to shampoo, candles to honey of all types.  The popular cake stall will make a return visit too! Keen gardeners will be able to buy plants from the Wildlife trust to encourage bees into their gardens - an important consideration as you might have been hearing of the decline in the honey bee.

HBKA Chairman, Paul Howe, said: “For additional interest, there will be candle making for you to try your hand at.  For those more interested in the honey than the wax, you will have the opportunity to taste a selection of honey before deciding which to purchase. You will be amazed at how many different tastes there are even though the honey is all local to Huntingdonshire.”

The apiary will be open too, so you can look inside a beehive from the safety of the hide whilst listening to and watching the beekeepers at work.

Entry to the Honey Show is free!
