Over 170 young people engaged in a number of sports activities during the October half term. 40 of these took part in mountain biking sessions run by British Cycling’s Go-Ride coach. The sessions were held at Hinchingbrooke Country Park with all equipment provided allowing participants to ride round the most challenging areas of the park.

The half term programme also included archery taster sessions, canoeing taster sessions run by Huntingdon Canoe Club, golf at Hemingford Abbots Golf Complex and climbing at Grafham Water Centre. In addition to the sport specific courses there were also three fun activity roadshows held in Brampton, Somersham and Little Paxton to allow young people to partake in a range of different play and sports activities.

Martin Grey, Senior Sports Development Officer said; “It is great to see the opportunities that we provide being taken up by the young people in the district, as the majority of the courses during October were fully booked. Our holiday programmes aim to provide fun, alternative sports courses for young people, as well as trying to increase young people’s overall participation in sport”.

All of the activities are organised by the leisure development team at Huntingdonshire District Council, in partnership with local sports clubs, sports organisations and parish councils.
