Local children from Huntingdonshire’s primary and junior schools embarked on St Ives for the Autumn High 5s Netball Festivals. The festivals provide mixed teams with the opportunity to compete against other schools in High 5s Netball, a game that is specifically designed for children of this age. The festivals are split over three days to allow schools to compete against those of a similar size.

Thursday 6 November saw the large schools competition take place. Crosshall Junior School won both the A and B team titles with the A team beating Westfield Primary School in a close and exciting final.

Wednesday 12 November saw the medium schools competition take place. Bury Primary School claimed both trophies on the day but had to play very well to do so. In the A team competition Bury beat Holywell Primary School in a closely fought final scoring a last second goal to win 3-2.

Thursday 13 November was the turn of the small schools. Newton Primary School won the A team title beating Abbots Ripton Primary School in the final. Where as the B team title was regained by Brington Primary School as they topped their group after all of their games.

The festivals are organised by Huntingdonshire District Councils Leisure Development team and were held at St Ivo Outdoor Complex. Martin Grey, Senior Sports Development Officer, said: “It is always pleasing to know that the schools look forward to these events. The standard of play was very good from all schools as they enjoyed the opportunity to compete in a formal sports competition against other schools”.
