Huntingdon Leisure Centre welcomed Inclusive Fitness week at the end of April. In order to celebrate inclusive sport, the leisure centre and the district council’s leisure development team organised two activities which enabled 25 disabled people to access the facility free of charge.

The first activity was a special edition of the weekly disability multi-sports club that runs within the centre, with the session being attended by coaches from neighbouring Huntingdon Tennis Club. All participants enjoyed the session, where they worked on their hand-eye co-ordination and racket skills. The second activity allowed a group to experience the game of boccia for the first time; the subtle and skilful game requires a steady hand and a good eye.

The national Inclusive Fitness Week was organised by the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI).

Huntingdon Leisure Centre currently holds an accreditation from IFI in recognition of the accessibility of the centre.

Community Sport and Recreation Officer, David Reeve said; “It was great for Huntingdon Leisure Centre to hold these activities in support of IFI’s Inclusive Fitness Week, the centre is very proud of its IFI accreditation and is always working hard to ensure accessibility is up-held and increased.”
