Huntingdonshire District Council's website achieved over one million visits during 2007 with an average of 2,749 visits a day.
The council’s website has been running for 10 years and the inclusion of online services over the last few years has seen the number of visitors to the site increase.
The website has an array of information that ranges from details on one of our five leisure centres, tourist information, conservation, environmental health and community information. Residents can also view refuse collection dates, find detailed councillor information, check on local planning applications and fill in a large number of forms and other applications online.
Councillor Mike Simpson, whose executive responsibilities include Information Technology said, “We are thrilled that we have achieved such a great amount of visitors during 2007. The internet makes many of our services available at any time of the day or night, whether it's reporting a problem, booking sports facilities or downloading forms.
He added; "If people can find what they need on our website rather than having to phone or visit us then it means that we are providing a more efficient and effective service and giving much better value for money. We plan to continue to improve our website to handle the increasing demands being placed upon it and to ensure that it can continue to provide a first-class service. “
During the last month users have been asked for their views through online questionnaires and drop in sessions. At a later date the information received will be used to help further improve the website.
If you would like to view the website or to access more information on any of the council services visit the website.
A visit is an individual period of use by a user and is calculated to be a more accurate representation of use than the figure of hits which is widely reported in the media, the council actually had 3.8 million hits in the same period.
