Huntingdonshire District Council’s Building Control Team celebrated their achievements with local timber frame house producer Potton Ltd of Great Gransden after scooping an award at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Built-In Quality Awards for East Anglia.

The annual event, held in Cambridge recognised successful working partnerships and the very best of building developments completed during 2007. The district council and Potton Ltd took the ‘Best Partnership with a Designer, Architect or Construction Consultant Award’ against strong opposition.
 
Graham Shipley, Building Control Manager for the district council said; “We have been working with Potton Ltd for almost twenty years and now check many of their building regulation submissions for new houses, regardless of where they are to be built in England or Wales. Over the years we have helped the company to meet significant changes to building regulation requirements allowing their designs to be readily accepted nationwide. It is great to be recognised for the time and hard work put in by both organisations.”
 
Winning entries from Cambridge City and East Cambridgeshire District Council meant Cambridgeshire local councils took the top award in four out of ten categories. LABC Regional Chairman Nick Seaton said; “All those who have worked on the winning entries can feel justifiably proud of their contribution to some of the finest examples of what the East Anglia construction industry has to offer.”

Martin Waker of Potton Ltd said; ”We are continually looking for ways to improve the service we give to customers and make the self-build process as simple and trouble free as possible. With almost 500 successful applications made to date, our partnership with the building control team at the council has proven that this is the most straight forward and professional way to submit a building regulation application. The additional benefit of such a close working relationship also allows us access to expert advice on individual project queries and new legislation.”

All regional finalists will now go through to the prestigious National LABC Awards in London later this year.
