Huntingdon Farmers’ Market is offering a free breakfast to cyclists on Friday 20th June as part of the District Council’s support for Bike to Work Week (14 –22 June 2008)
The free breakfast will be available to anyone who brings their bike to the Farmers’ Market before 10am. Local produce will be cooked up and served with a cup of Fairtrade tea or coffee by farmers’ market regulars Fen Farm Venison.
“It’s a perfect fit for the farmers’ market” said Councillor Colin Hyams, Huntingdonshire District Council’s executive councillor for operational services. “Buying locally-produced food at certified farmers’ markets is one of way of protecting the environment as it supports local farmers, cuts down food packaging and reduces the carbon-dioxide emissions caused by the long-distance transport of food. Biking to work is another important contribution, which reduces emissions from cars as well as being a great way to stay fit.”
Huntingdon Farmers’ Market recently celebrated its fifth birthday. The award-winning certified farmers’ market is held every other Friday in the Market Square from 8am to 2pm. The free Bike to Work Breakfasts will be available up until 10am on Friday 20th June.
