Spring Common Special School launched their ‘five a day cook book’ today, (1 July 2008) at the school, complete with tasters of the recipes available in the book.

The launch of the cookbook was a celebration event for many of the young people who are leaving the school, some of them looking for further training in the field of hospitality.

Veronica Martin, health improvement officer at Huntingdonshire District Council said; I am thrilled by the cookbook, it showcases the fresh produce that the pupils have learnt how to grow, cook and serve in the past year and is another way to promote healthier eating for families.”

The pupils have been involved in the design, choice of recipes and content of the book including tips about food hygiene and getting your five portions of fruit and vegetables each day for good health.  All the families from Spring Common Special School will receive a copy and the pupils will use the book in cookery classes during the next school year.

The cookbooks is one of the many ‘Hunts for Good Food’ projects that Huntingdonshire District Council supports through grants and encompass all the activities that promote healthier eating from ‘soil to plate’.
