Dragonflies and damselflies will be part of a walk along the banks of the River Great Ouse in Wilhorn Meadow, in St Ives, on July 13th at 2.30 pm. The walk has been organised by Huntingdonshire District Council’s Countryside Services and will be lead by local naturalist Mick Twinn so that local people, adults and children alike, can learn more about these extraordinary insects.
Countryside Services Ranger, Judith Arnold, said “If you walk along the banks of the River Great Ouse during the summer months you are very likely to see iridescent blue and green flying insects: dragonflies and damselflies. The River Great Ouse is a wonderful site for these insects, supporting about half of all the species found in Britain. At this time of year there will be plenty of butterflies to spot and the hum of the busy bees should add to the variety of minibeasts seen flying.”
The walk starts at the entrance to Wilhorn Meadow on London Road by Causeway Bridge. There is no need to book but there is a small charge of £2.00 per person.
