The rangers are inviting families to come and help them look for minibeasts at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve on Thursday 31 July. This is the chance to have a go at pond dipping and minibeast hunting in the long grass and under logs.
There are two sessions, one at 10.00am – noon for ages four plus and one at 1.30pm – 3.30pm for ages eight plus, but, there are limited places so booking is essential.
“Pond dipping is always a favourite for children” said Kirsty Drew, Ranger for Huntingdonshire District Council. “We find water scorpions, dragonfly nymphs, water beetles and much more in the lakes at Paxton Pits. Then, in a few sweeps in the long grass you can catch damselflies and grasshoppers as well as spiders, plant bugs and ladybirds. Minibeast hunting is fascinating and it really opens our eyes to the wildlife that is around us all of the time.”
The cost for a session is £4 per child and bookings can be taken by calling telephone 01480 451568.
