Yaxley Health Walkers have been totting up the miles and have walked to Eye and back, no not Eye in Peterborough but the equivalent distance to the London Eye and back.
The Yaxley walks were re-launched as part of the Huntingdonshire Health Walks Scheme in March 2007 and during that time the health walkers have walked over 25 walks each. Margaret Meldrum, Elizabeth Walker and Marguerite Hudson all received a health walks water bottle. The Yaxley walks are held on Thursday afternoons at 1pm and meet outside the Yaxley Community Information Project in Broadway.
The Huntingdonshire Health Walks Scheme is run in partnership with Huntingdonshire District Council and Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust.
The walks last between 45 minutes and 1 hour and are led by a qualified walk leader. They are at a pace which allows all to join and many of the walks are suitable for pushchairs too. Incentives are awarded the more walks you complete with pedometers awarded for completing 10 walks, up to a fleece jacket for 150 walks.
New walkers are always welcome to join this friendly group. Why not start the year by getting a little bit of extra exercise, meet new people from you local area and start walking your way to health? Monthly programmes are available from YCIP or Yaxley Group Practice, Landsdown Road.
