On Monday 7 January 2008 the Huntingdonshire Health Walks Scheme is five years old with almost 15,000 attendances recorded and in month one when the health walks were first introduced in 2003 a commendable 85 attendances were recorded.
The Health walks scheme had become very popular and five years on five hundred walkers a month are seen on a regular basis.
The scheme is run in partnership with Huntingdonshire District Council and Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust. Walking has been shown to have many health benefits both physical and mental and is a free and easily accessible activity. No specialist equipment is required.
New walkers are always welcome to join us. Why not start your new year walking and be with us when we celebrate our next birthday, plus if you refer a friend during the month of January you could find yourself the proud owner of a limited edition health walks mug once your friend has completed five walks.
The first walk in January is on Monday 7 January 2008 meeting at Conygeare Car Park, St Neots at 10am. All walkers are welcome; please arrive 10 minutes early to complete essential paperwork.
