Huntingdon Farmers’ Market is inviting everyone in the Huntingdon area to flock into the Market Square and take part in their celebration of Purple Love Week between 8am and 2pm on Friday 15th February 2008.
The event is part of the third Purple Love Week, which runs from 9th – 16th February 2008. So far, thousands of people have taken part in Purple Love Week, Britain’s biggest tasting event, which first ran in 2006. This year, delis, farm shops, butchers, bakers, corner shops, restaurants, good food halls and producers of great food will all be joining in and holding tastings and events throughout the week encouraging everyone to call in and enjoy great food in great company.
“Our aim is simple, to encourage people to come out and enjoy loving great food with us. At Huntingdon Farmers’ Market we’ll be celebrating our great local food with free tasters and a Purple Prose board for customers to have their say. We hope that lots of our friends and new people will come and find out more about us – and meet some other friendly people too while they enjoy some great food!” said Councillor Colin Hyams, whose executive councillor responsibilities include the farmers’ market.
The event has a special relevance this year as high streets and small outlets are particularly vulnerable to any economic downturn and this is the perfect opportunity for great food places everywhere to do all they can to ride the waves.
There’s a dedicated website which has loads of information about Purple Love Week with a page where people can tell others about their favourite food or food place and there’s a chance to win a hamper full of Purple Love Week food.Click on the link on your right to visit the website.
Created by Giles Henschel, founder of the Dorset food company Olives Et Al, Purple Love Week has developed into a much bigger event for 2008. “Purple Love Week started as a fun way of brightening up February, but this year we’ve got involved with many more producers who want to support the event. We really hope that more people will join in this year than ever before to seek out the most filled pie, cheesiest cheese, best baked buns, proper butcher or just the best ever olives,” said Giles.
