Twentieth Boxing Day Walk At Hinchingbrooke Country Park (17/12/08)

One of the most popular events arranged by Huntingdonshire District Council Countryside Services is the walk at Hinchingbrooke Country Park organised each Boxing Day.  This year will be the twentieth time the walk has been arranged!

Rangers will identify several different routes for you to choose, including routes of various lengths depending on how much energy people have, or how much they overindulged on Christmas day!  There will be simple activities for the children to do, but for people keen on wildlife, Rangers will look for nibbled nuts or part eaten cones and tracks on the ground, as this will indicate the wealth of wildlife we know exists amongst the trees.  The Rangers will also discuss management techniques used on the site and provide the opportunity for younger walkers to use their own observation skills.  Hot soup, mince pies and drinks  will be available from the café to warm walkers up upon their return.

Senior Ranger, Judith Arnold explained: “This has become a very sociable event with some families coming each year as “regulars” which means it is a lovely day to work and meet every one again. Four members of staff will be on hand to lead walks and the café will be open all day.”

There is no need to book for this popular walk, but be sure to wear stout footwear, as it might be muddy and wet, and warm clothing.  Meet by the Visitors Centre at 11 am on Boxing Day.
