Following several months of lobbying from parishes in West Huntingdonshire, which include Keyston, Catworth, Molesworth, Brington, Old Weston, Leighton Bromswold, Ellington, Grafham, Perry, Staughton Green, Kimbolton, Stow Longa and Spaldwick, it has been agreed that people holding bus passes in these villages and using the daily 400 and 401 bus services, will now be able to use their passes on these routes into Huntingdon before 09.30 Monday to Friday.

Huntingdonshire District Council provides funding for a number of exemptions to allow travel before 09.30 where the only bus service of the day to certain villages is before this time. Unfortunately when the new scheme started on 1 April 2008, these two services were not included. Stagecoach, the local bus company that run these services are now allowing people to travel on these services using their passes, which started on 4 August following negotiations with Cambridgeshire County Council.

Additionally, following agreement with Northamptonshire County Council, villagers in Winwick and Great Gidding will now be able to use their passes before 09.30 on the 209 Thursday service to Oundle.

Councillor Peter Bucknell, Executive Councillor for Planning and Transport said; “We are delighted that we have been able to secure these additions to the scheme to allow more people to be able to travel free of charge. In some of our more rural villages, where the only primary service of the day is before 09.30, it is important that we do all we can to allow this to happen and I hope that many bus pass holders will take up this opportunity. This also provides additional financial support for these important services to some of our most rural villages where this type of support is vital”.
