Huntingdonshire District Council countryside services staff and volunteers achieved great heights at Rutland Bird Fair last weekend when they got presented with two awards for their stand. One award was for the best stand in the tourism category and the other was for the best stand in the whole show. The stand was to promote the future extension to Paxton Pits Nature Reserve which will see the reserve expand 3.5 times over the next 10 years following further gravel extraction.
Rutland Bird Fair is the biggest bird watching event in the world which attracts around 20,000 people each year over a weekend and aims to promote and raise money for international bird conservation. With more than 300 stands exhibiting bird and wildlife related goods and places, the awards given to Huntingdonshire District Council’s Countryside Service are a big achievement. “I want to congratulate the staff and volunteers at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve who have been recognised through these awards. I know they put a lot of time and effort into this project.” said Councillor Hyams, executive councillor for operational and countryside services. “The extension to Paxton Pits is a very exciting scheme that will unfold over the next 10 years and it was excellent to hear so many positive comments by visitors to the Bird Fair about our plans for this superb nature reserve.”
Information about the future extension to Paxton Pits can be found at the Visitors’ Centre at the nature reserve in Little Paxton. Details are also on the Friends of Paxton Pits website which can be accessed using the link on the right.
