American Indian Day Living With Nature (29/08/08)

Photo of Children dressed in costumes and having fun

Native Americans capture the imagination and epitomise the concept of living as part of the natural world in a sustainable way.

On Saturday 13 at 10.00 to 15.00 the rangers at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve are holding a Pow-Wow event for 16 lucky children, aged eight to 13.

There is a rich heritage of nature related art and craft to delve into, and there are many stories which have been handed down through generations. The day will also be a good excuse to dress up!

Jim Stevenson, Senior Ranger at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve said, “It will be a fun and educational day and we hope that the children will come dressed up. Making a costume is a good project for the end of the holidays. We also have some ready-made costumes at the Reserve.”

Activities will include dressing up, building a tee-pee, war paint, bead work and weaving, animal tracking, making a journey stick, stories and music.

The event costs £10.00 per child. To book a place for your child please call 01480 451568.
