As part of Family Learning Week, Ramsey Community Information Centre will be hosting a free-to-enter quiz where people will be asked to discover more about their local environment. Families will be encouraged to take a stroll around Ramsey to identify birds, trees and seeds and to answer questions relating to them. First prize is a dwarf apple tree, kindly donated by Abbey College, Ramsey. Quiz sheets are available from the information centre at 39 Great Whyte and other community locations in Ramsey.
The community access point computers in the centre can be used to assist with the fact finding part of the quiz and a family healthy walk has been organised for Saturday 6 October 2007, leaving the centre at 10am, where quiz entrants can enjoy a gentle stroll around Ramsey, taking in relevant areas to help them with the quiz along the way and free refreshments will be available at the end.
Huntingdonshire District Council’s community information centres’ manager, Julie Butcher, said “This is a great opportunity for families to have fun together whilst learning about the local environment and they could walk away with a lovely prize”. The district council is working in close partnership with Abbey College to bring a range of Family Learning Week activities to the Ramsey area and the finale to this will be an open day on Saturday, 13 October 2007 at the information centre and community garden, which will be opened by the chairman of the council, Councillor Phillip Swales, at 10am. Prizes and certificates will be presented to competition winners and demonstrations will be held, to include: seed planting, using locally produced compost; apple pressing and tasting; building a bird-box demonstration; fruits of the hedgerow smoothie making and tasting and much, much more!!!...
Quiz entries must be submitted by Thursday, 11 October 2007. For further details please contact the Ramsey Community Information Centre at 39 Great Whyte, Ramsey PE26 1HH or telephone 01487 815213.
