Huntingdon Leisure Centre will be receiving an exciting facelift which will significantly broaden the range of activities available to the centre and increase value for money for its customers.
The redevelopment will expand the range of activities available for families and children as well as improving the facilities available to members of the Impressions Fitness Suite.
A permanent children’s soft play area with an interactive zone for older children will offer facilities currently unavailable in the area. The Sunset Café and Bar at the centre will be extended to allow parents to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee whilst watching their children play.
Councillor Doug Dew, portfolio holder for Leisure said; “We see this part of the development as key to offering a wider range of activities for children of all ages and part of our input into combating the growth of childhood obesity. The interactive zone is designed for 10 – 16 year olds to use the latest interactive gaming technology whilst the soft play area will provide both challenging and stimulating play for children up to the age of 12. We hope by encouraging both families and children into the centre that they can become accustomed to their surroundings and develop both a healthy routine of activity”.
Work will also be taking place to improve facilities for current users by providing new male and female changing rooms. This will be complimented with a new heath suite and relaxation area, massage bed, holistic therapies and an extension to the Impression Fitness Suite which will include a vibrotherapy training area.
“We wanted to improve the centre by offering a relaxing area for customers to unwind within close proximity to the changing area. The new redevelopment enables us to do this and provide other services such as holistic therapies and a vibrotherapy training suite.”
Huntingdon Leisure Centre is currently in consultation with contractors but expect work to be completed in 2008 with minimal disruption to the existing facilities within the centre.
