Eight new volunteer walk leaders have joined the Huntingdonshire Health Walks scheme. All of them have been regular walkers on the scheme, which now has 30 volunteer leaders who supervise up to 38 walks each month.
The Huntingdonshire Health Walks scheme has been running since 2003 and there are walks every day during the week across the district covering St Ives, St Neots, Huntingdon, Ramsey and Yaxley. It is run in partnership with Huntingdonshire District Council and Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust. New leaders are always needed to continue with the successful running of this worthwhile project.
To become a volunteer walk leader you need to attend a free one day training course, which includes topics like the benefits of an active lifestyle and route planning. The courses are fun and informative, and you will be awarded with a certificate recognised by the Walking the Way to Health Initiative.
If you are interested in volunteering for a worthwhile cause and getting some regular gentle exercise at the same time contact Lisa Curry, Health Walks Co-ordinator on 01480 387047.
