High Fives Netball Festival (21/11/07)

Nearly five hundred children from 28 local schools played in the Autumn High 5s Netball Festivals over three days at St Ivo Outdoor Complex, organised by Huntingdonshire District Council’s leisure development team.
 
On Tuesday 6 November the large schools competition took place.  Westfield Primary School, St Ives were victorious in the Year 5/6 A team competition beating Crosshall Junior School, St Neots in the final. Ramsey Junior School claimed the B team title with Crosshall once again the runners up in this section.

On Wednesday 7 November the small schools competition took place. Newton Primary School regained their title winning all of their games, defeating Great Gidding Primary School in the year 5/6 A team final. Brington Primary School claimed the year 5/6 B team trophy with Houghton Primary School runners up. Overhills Primary School won the year 3/4 title defeating Brington in the final.

On Wednesday 14 November the medium schools competition took place. The year 5/6 A team title was shared between Brampton Primary School and Hemingford Grey Primary School after the final between the two teams ended in a draw after both extra time and sudden death could not separate them. Holywell Primary School won the B team title with Hartford Junior School runners up. Holywell were also victorious in the year 3/4 tournament with Alconbury Primary School as runners up.

Councillor Ian Bates who attended the larger schools festival said; “It was an enjoyable afternoon watching the children having fun whilst getting to meet parents and teachers from the schools”.

Councillor Ian Bates Leader of the Council, Councillor Phillip Swales Chairman of the Council and Councillor John Davies Vice-Chairman from Huntingdonshire District Council each attended a festival and were on hand to present medals and trophies to the winning teams.

Martin Grey, Youth Sports Development Officer, said; “The three days went extremely well with excellent attendances. It was great to have so many schools involved in the festivals providing the children with the opportunity to play against other schools”.
