The Huntingdon Farmers’ market is celebrating the delicious tastes of Huntingdonshire this Christmas with a wide range of fresh produce and ideal gifts on Friday 7 and 21 December 2007 on the Market Square between 8am – 2pm.
The festive markets are expected to attract crowds of people, and shoppers will have the opportunity to grab some last minute Christmas goodies such as traditional seasonal food sold by the friendly people who produce it.
Huntingdon Farmers’ market is FARMA certified which means the food sold must come from the local area and be sold by the person who produces it. With produce available, in season, with fewer food miles and lower carbon footprint it’s perfect for a traditional tasty Christmas dinner.
On the array of stalls there will be brussel sprouts, cheeses, chipolatas, Christmas cakes, Christmas puddings, chutneys, ducks, game, gingerbread houses, goose, Guinea fowl, mince pies, ostrich meat, parsnips, preserves, red cabbage, stuffing, turkeys, venison, holly wreaths, Christmas trees and mistletoe all on offer.
On the 21 December at 11am and again at midday shoppers will be able to enjoy the traditional delights of carol singing by the Riverside Singers, a local youth performing arts charity, the singers will be collecting to support the choir's attempt to compete in the World choir Olympics in Graz, Austria, in July 2008.
Councillor Colin Hyams, whose portfolio includes responsibility for Huntingdon Farmers’ Market said; “There will be a range of fresh produce on sale at the Christmas market and it will be an ideal chance for shoppers to buy locally produced goods for presents. As one of those who relocated from London several years ago, it has made me really appreciate the genuine taste of local food and I will definitely be making a special trip to one of the markets this Christmas”.
Rosemary Hoskins, Advisor to Huntingdon Farmers’ Market said; “This will be a unique Christmas market with quality, fresh local produce on offer. It doesn’t matter if this is your first visit to the market or a regular outing. Everyone is welcome to come and sample the sights, smells and taste of what is on offer”.
The farmers’ market is back in the New Year on Friday 4 January 2008.
