An order giving police and police community support officers the power to stop and confiscate alcohol from people that are believed to be likely to act in an anti-social manner, is being sought through Huntingdonshire Community Safety Partnership.
It is proposed that the Designated Public Places Order being put in place by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Huntingdonshire District Council working with St Ives town Council will cover the Wheatfields area from Cambridge Drive through to Wheatfields Primary School. It is being set up following complaints about anti-social behaviour thought to be a direct result of the influence of alcohol.
Amanda Stash, anti-social behaviour case worker for Huntingdonshire District council said: This Designated Public Places Order will help alleviate problems created by young people drinking alcohol in the area, allowing residents to enjoy a greater quality of life.”
Members of the public have the opportunity to express their views about the order. Maps have been put up locally. Views should be sent to the Community Safety Team at Huntingdonshire District Council, Pathfinder House, St Mary’s Street, Huntingdon, PE29 3TN, by 19 April 2007, or telephone 01480 388388 or e-mail the council using the address on the right hand side.
Councillor Mrs Deborah Reynolds, whose executive councillor responsibilities include community safety, said: “We are taking this action in the hope that it will help to address incidents of anti-social behaviour in this area.”
