Holt Island Nature Reserve Spring Opening (28/03/07)

A photo of Holt Island in St Ives

If you don’t know Holt Island Nature Reserve, you are missing out on one of the St Ives most attractive delights.

It is a beautiful place, accessed by the footbridge alongside All Saints Parish Church at the western end of the Waits.

Open every weekend from April to September, or at other times by borrowing the key, Holt Island is a tranquil green space, perfect for a stroll. The boardwalk around the site enables easy walking for all, and there are lovely views over the river to the Hemingfords, and back to the town bridge.

In spring the island is bursting with bird song and through summer into autumn there is an array of flowers, butterflies and dragonflies to see and enjoy.

Bridget Halford, Ranger at Holt Island Nature Reserve said, “I look forward to welcoming people to Holt Island especially now the weather is getting warmer.  I hope that more people will discover the island and use it for different group activities from painting groups to gentle keep fit.”
