A team of street rangers have begun to act as the eyes and ears of the community, to help improve the quality of life, provide a sense of security and to help keep the streets, car parks and open spaces clean, tidy and well maintained.
You may spot the Huntingdonshire District Council rangers on foot, bicycle, or car providing a reassuring uniformed presence on local streets and in public spaces.
As part of their new role they will help stamp out neighbourhood nuisances such as graffiti, abandoned cars, litter, vandalism, fly tipping and dog fouling. The street rangers will also work in partnership with other organisations to deliver a co-ordinated and effective service.
Councillor Colin Hyams, whose executive responsibilities include the new streetscene service said: "I very much welcome the new street ranger team and wish them success. I believe they will play a vital role in reassuring the public and making our communities safer and more attractive.
Sonia Hansen, streetscene manager said, "The street rangers will make a real impact on the area and will help towards achieving a better quality of life for the people of Huntingdonshire.”
The team are part of a service that incorporates a number of activities that have an important impact on the street and public open spaces in terms of their appearance and condition. It is a service that in some way affects the whole population living, working and visiting our district. Keeping the streets and open spaces looking clean and tidy, well maintained and safe are part of the council's objectives.
This new service has been developed using existing resources more effectively, which will provide a more efficient service to the communities within the district.
