Dragonflies and damselflies are the subject of a walk along the banks of the River Great Ouse in Wilhorn Meadow, in St Ives, on July 8 at 2.30 pm.
The walk has been organised by Huntingdonshire District Council’s Countryside Services so that local people, adults and children alike, can learn more about these extraordinary insects.
Countryside Services Ranger, Bridget Halford said, “If you walk along the banks of the River Ouse during the summer months you are very likely to see iridescent blue and green flying insects, dragonflies and damselflies. The River Great Ouse is a wonderful site for these insects supporting about half of all the species found in Britain. I hope that people will come along and learn more about these fascinating creatures”.
If you are interested in joining in, the walk starts at 2.30. No booking is required all you have to do is turn up at the entrance to the Dolphin Hotel car park near the Chapel Bridge in St Ives. There is a charge of £2.00 per person or £5.00 a family.
