Huntingdonshire’s first Food and Drink Festival celebrating the great food, produced and grown locally has successfully received a grant of £8,000 of Awards for All Lottery funding.

This is the first festival of this kind in the district and the funding has been provided to help promote the festival and to spread the word about the great produce we have available right on our door step.  The grant will also be used for an education programme, as part of the festival, to help people appreciate the benefits of healthy eating, reduce the miles travelled by the food and minimise carbon footprints.

The Huntingdonshire Food and Drink Festival will take place in venues all around the district this September starting on 8 and continuing to Sunday 16 and what a tasty feast it will provide.  The Festival will be a showcase for the wonderful food available in this area from local producers, growers and retailers.  The many events taking place are expected to attract many hundreds of visitors to our market towns and villages.

There’s something for everyone, with special Farmers’ Markets, locally-sourced menus in local restaurants, a food quiz, open farms, honey and plum days and the Huntingdonshire Food and Drink Awards, all taking place during the week-long celebration of local food and drink.

Deni Darke, a member of the Festival project team said “Putting on any event for the first time is a challenge, both operationally and financially, so the Awards for All grant is very welcome and will be a great help as we stage Huntingdonshire’s first ever Food and Drink Festival.  We will be using the grant for equipment and venue hire, promotional materials and our food education programme and the funding will be of huge assistance in making this first Festival exciting, interesting, educational and fun!’
