A British Gas discounted home insulation scheme, which offers the additional incentive of a £50 council tax rebate, is proving to be a real success with Huntingdonshire residents.

Since the launch of the scheme in April, several local residents have participated and benefited from substantially reduced price cavity wall and loft insulation, along with the £50 rebate.
 
Huntingdonshire District Council is working in partnership with British Gas, who is providing the funding for this hugely popular scheme.  The discounted offer has already been a national success, with up to 40 other local authorities running similar promotions in their areas.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, as much as 60p in every pound spent heating your home, could literally be going through the walls and roof due to inadequate insulation.  Installing insulation not only saves you money on your fuel bills, it also benefits the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, considered to be the main harmful contributor towards climate change.

Councillor Peter Bucknell, Executive Councillor for Environment, presented a £50 rebate cheque to Mr and Mrs Munro of St. Neots, who decided to have cavity wall insulation installed after receiving the British gas leaflet enclosed with their council tax bill.  They are delighted with the insulation and have already noticed a difference in the warmth of their home.  The cavity wall insulation will save them approximately £250 a year on their fuel bills.

Councillor Bucknell said; “We must all commit to improving the energy efficiency of our homes to help prevent the damaging effects of climate change. The district council is pleased to support and promote the scheme, which is proving to be very popular.”
