Work will start soon on a Creative Enterprise Centre in St Neots, as part of the regeneration of the Longsands Quarter of St Neots. It will provide space for fledgling creative industries, as well as links with a number of education and training institutions. It will also form a gateway to Longsands College, a school with specialist status in media, technology and arts.
The £1 million building is being commissioned by Huntingdonshire District Council and is jointly funded by the council (£300,000) and the Department for Communities and Local Government (£700,000). Additional funding of £300,000 has been secured from the East of England Development Agency to enhance the original scheme with high grade internal fittings and fixtures, external landscaping, car parking and possibly renewable energy schemes.
The building has an innovative design. Its architect Tom Holbrook said: “5th Studio is particularly proud to be the designers of the St Neots Creative Innovation Centre. We aim to bring something of excellent architectural quality to Priory Park that will give physical form and dynamism to the District Council's Creative Enterprise Strategy, while also marking the beginning of the transformation of Longsands College and Longsands Quarter.”
Councillor Ian Bates, Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council said ‘ The council is committed to promoting enterprise and growth in the local economy, this project will provide the district with a specialist centre to nurture new businesses and jobs in the creative industries sector.”
Councillor Andrew Hansard, executive councillor for resources said: “This is fantastic news for St Neots and the district. The Enterprise Centre will offer an exciting and, in many respects, unique opportunity for
collaboration between education and business.”
