Changes To Parish Boundaries And Electoral Arrangements – Your Chance To Comment Further (24/01/07)

Draft proposals for changes to parish boundaries and electoral arrangements in parts of Huntingdonshire have been drawn up by the district council.

The aim is to seek to provide a better reflection of community identities and review of the number of councillors representing each parish. The proposals could change the parish you live in or change the number of parish councillors that represent you.

Councillor David Harty, Chairman of the District Council’s Elections Panel said: “This is the first parish electoral review that has been undertaken for over 25 years and since then communities have grown and expanded with new housing developments. This has resulted in the existing parish boundaries cutting directly through some properties and these anomalies needed to be addressed, whilst taking into account future committed house building.”

As a result of the proposed alterations, some of the new boundaries may no longer share the same boundary with District Ward, County Division and Parliamentary Constituency boundaries and as such, the Council is interested to hear your views on these changes. Suggestions have also been made to group together parishes with small electorates and parishes with parish meetings with neighbouring parishes to form new larger parish councils.

A copy of the consultation document outlining full details of the proposals is available on our website using the link to the right. You have until the end of March 2007 to comment on the draft proposals and comments should be sent to Lisa Jablonska, Central Services Manager by post or by e-mail using the link on the right. Following consideration of any comments received during this period, the Council will prepare final recommendations on changes to parish arrangements for submission to the Electoral Commission and Secretary of State.
