Huntingdonshire District Council is celebrating success after receiving East of England Development Agency grants from The Quality of Place Fund for two partnership projects.
The first partnership project will provide St Neots town centre with an electronic community and tourist information kiosk for local residents and visitors. This state of the art kiosk will be similar to the one found in St Benedict’s Court, Huntingdon and in Ramsey and St Ives. This new facility will provide information 24/7 and will complement the existing tourist information office in New Street.
Corrine Garbett, Economic Development Manager said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Town Centre Initiative on this project. This kiosk allows us to use new technology to provide information in a cost effective and inclusive way and will complement the other ways in which information is provided in the town.”
John Davies chair of the St Neots Town Initiative said, “St Neots is a thriving market town and we want to promote a sense of pride and enhance the enjoyment of those who visit the area. Instant access to information will help to keep residents and visitors informed of the towns features and benefits”.
The second partnership project will see improvements made to the High Lode area of Ramsey. The works will include new moorings, improved landscaping, new lighting and an interpretation board providing information on the history of the waterway. New public art will also be created which will provide links between the waterway and the town centre.
Peter Hazell, Chairman of Ramsey Area Partnership, told us, “The funding enables the partnership to take forward a number of issues that the local community has previously identified for action. A fantastic opportunity will also arise from the Inland Waterways Festival, being held in St Ives in August this year, by providing visitors going to the event the opportunity to also visit Ramsey. ”
The improvements are being carried out with the support of landowner David Sutton. This is the first stage of improvements planned for the area.
