A level 2 award in community sports leadership is proving to be a success for young people in Huntingdon who are involved in volunteering through Huntingdon Youth Centre and local sports clubs.
The course has been set up by Huntingdonshire District Council’s leisure development team to give young people the opportunity to gain a recognised leadership qualification.
It is an accredited qualification with Sports Leaders UK that gives people aged 16 and over the skills and confidence needed to lead fun and safe activities for young people. The course begun in November and will continue through until the end of April 2008 covering a wide range of topics including communication and organisation, event planning, practical delivery of sports, first aid, child protection and much more.
Course tutor David Reeve said; “All the students have made a very good start to the course and will hopefully provide Huntingdon with some excellent sports leaders”.
Fellow course tutor, Martin Grey, also commented; “The course is all about learning and having fun at the same time and providing young people with a qualification that looks great on their CV”.
