Ramsey Exhibition Extended (23/08/07)

By popular demand, the exhibition of 20 fascinating and beautiful textile banners on display at Ramsey Rural Museum has been extended to the end of September.

Huntingdonshire District Council’s Arts Services Manager, Viv Peters, said: “The response to this exhibition has been amazing.  It is particularly interesting for Ramsey folk, but people from all over have commented that it gives a real insight into the history and character of Ramsey.  I am delighted that the Museum has kindly offered to extend the exhibition for a further 6 weeks.”

Textile artist Ricki Outis worked with local community groups in Ramsey over several months to identify unique heritage features in the town.  People of all ages took photographs, made drawings, looked at old photographs and told local stories, before they transferred images onto light-sensitive “blue-print” fabric squares, and embellished them with beads and braids.  Ricki then stitched their work together into the panels, which show features of Ramsey from A-Z.

The free exhibition is in The Barn at Ramsey Rural Museum, Wood Lane, and is open on Thursdays from 10am-5pm and Sunday afternoons from 2-5pm until 30th September.

This project has been entirely funded by a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, through the Local Heritage Initiative, and managed by Arts Service staff at Huntingdonshire District Council.
