Pupils at Thorndown Community Infant School and Thorndown Junior School, St Ives, are getting involved in designing decorative screens to be erected at the entrance of Hill Rise Park, close to their schools.
The project is part of an ongoing initiative by Huntingdonshire District Council to install decorative metalwork screens to mark the entrances to their public parks. Decorative screens have already been installed at the entrances to Riverside Park in Huntingdon and at Riverside Park, St Neots.
The screens which are made locally at a traditional forge may include images that sum up the environment and history of the local area, and the children's ideas will be used as a starting point for the design process.
Last week the children spent the day working on the project at Thorndown Community Infant School, Hill Rise, St Ives and came up with a mixture of creative ideas.
The school council will pull together a portfolio of their ideas and will recommend their favourite ten to Huntingdonshire District Council who will make the final decision.
John Craig, “Service development Manager leading the project said, “We are looking forward to seeing the creative ideas the children come up with and are pleased to see the local children so enthusiastic about getting involved in the project. In years to come the children will be able to see their ideas on display at the entrance to the park.”
