The newly formed Friends of Holt Island Nature Reserve are holding their first public meeting on Thursday 3 May at 8pm in All Saints Parish Church Hall, Ramsey Road, St Ives, opposite the Aviator pub.
People are invited to drop into Holt Island at 6.30 pm before the meeting to enjoy the atmosphere, some light refreshments and meet some of the Friends. Holt Island is a lovely place to sit and relax and enjoy the views over the river and meadows, or to wander around taking in the wild flowers, butterflies and birdsong. A boardwalk around the island makes access possible for everyone. Entrance to the reserve is over the white metal bridge behind All Saints Parish Church just up from the Waits.
The aims of the Friends group are to formalise the existing support and affection for the reserve and promote its use and enjoyment by accessing a wide range of skills and ideas. The formation of the group may also give increased access to funding opportunities available to community groups for projects.
The meeting at All Saints Parish Church Hall will start with a talk by Bob Burn Murdoch about the history of the island before everyone present is invited to join the Friends, and adopt the constitution and elect officers for the committee. A copy of the draft constitution, membership form and agenda for the meeting can be found on the Holt Island pages of our website using the link to the right or viewed at St Ives Library.
