Two separate girls’ football festivals took place at St Ivo Outdoor Complex on Tuesday 25 April and at Priory Park, St Neots on Wednesday 26 April. A total of nine teams took part over the two days. Teams were made up of year 5 and 6 girl pupils from schools across Huntingdonshire.
The competition was based on a round robin format where everyone plays each other once and teams are given league places. At Tuesday’s festival Westfield A (St Ives) were winners, and Brington, one of the district’s smaller schools came a close second, which was a great achievement against some of the district’s larger schools.
Wednesday’s competition held at Priory Park was won by Alconbury after some very impressive play. Priory came second and Middlefield (St Neots) were third.
The results of the festivals were as follows: -
Winners Tuesday 25 April – Westfield Junior School
Winners Wednesday 26 April – Alconbury Primary School
The festival was organised by the leisure development team at Huntingdonshire District Council. Youth Sport Development Officer Martin Grey said: “Both days produced some excellent all round play and some very exciting games. I was also impressed by the spirit that the games were played in, all the children were a credit to their schools”.
