Hands On History Days - Reliving Life 2000 Years Ago (23/05/06)

Places are still available for a ‘Hands on History day at the Iron Age farm at Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Huntingdon, where visitors can experience life as it was 2000 years ago when the Romans arrived in this country.

Taking place from Wednesday 31 May – Friday 2 June, each day will involve practical tasks and traditional crafts including spinning and pottery.  The highlight of each day will be a tour of the Iron Age Farmstead by an archaeologist.

Huntingdonshire District Council’s Countryside Ranger, Judith Arnold, said: “the Iron Age Farm at Hinchingbrooke Country Park is a popular attraction.  We are always looking for new ways to develop its use, and to allow people the hands on approach.”

Archaeologist from Cambridgeshire Archaeology, a section of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Heritage Services, David Crawford-White, said: “It is important to bring history alive.  We make these days fun so that children remember the activities.  There will be the opportunity to try on costumes.”

The days run as follows:
Wednesday 31 May, 9.30 am – 1pm, for 8 – 12 year olds, cost £10 per child.
Thursday 1 and Friday 2 June, 9.30 am – 1 pm, family days, cost £15 per family (four people including at least one adult), £5 per extra child.
