Tree Planting And Guided Walk At Spring Common Huntingdon (06/01/06)

Spring Common in Huntingdon

Adults and children alike are invited to Spring Common, Huntingdon, on Sunday 5 February between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm to take part in the annual tree and shrub planting on Renton Meadow.  There will also be an opportunity at 2 pm to join Huntingdonshire District Council’s countryside rangers on a guided walk to find out about the history and the wildlife of the common.

“We would like to involve as many local people as possible in our annual tree planting event,” said ranger Kirsty Abell.  “We aim to plant around 200 trees and shrubs in order to create an area of cover for birds and mammals, so we need lots of willing volunteers to help.  Establishing a shrubby area can take some time in an area of long grassland, but gradually more and more shrubs are starting to grow.”

Tree planting is an event suitable for all the family and is very worthwhile.  It takes only a few minutes to plant a tree and all the equipment such as the spades and gloves will be provided.  A guided walk will follow the tree planting so volunteers and other interested people can find out how the common is managed for wildlife and people.

For further information about this event, or other events which countryside services organise throughout the year, please contact the rangers on 01480 451568.
