Health Walks St Ives Reaches 3000 (16/01/06)

Heathly Walks

St Ives health walks continue to grow!! The walkers of St Ives reached the 3000th attendance on Thursday 19 January 2006. The people of St Ives have been attending led walks every Tuesday and Thursday  since January 2003

The walks are popular and attract at least 10 - 15 people on most occasions, with new walkers regularly joining in. With the help of the eight volunteer leaders, the members who take part in this scheme have found it an enjoyable and social way to improve their health and lifestyle. Regular walkers are rewarded with prizes such as pedometers and t-shirts. The walks are run by Huntingdonshire District Council, jointly with Huntingdonshire Primary Care Trust and The Countryside Agency

Lisa Curry, health walks co-ordinator for Huntingdonshire District Council said “The scheme only celebrated the 2000th attendance in February 2005 so it just shows how successful the walks have been in St Ives. All the people who attend the walks should be proud to see how the scheme has gone from strength to strength”.

The 3000th walker was presented with a certificate and a water bottle on the day. The walk started at the Chapel on the Bridge at 10.00am.
