Zumbathon to help beat MS

Zumbathon at One Leisure St Ives

Ditch the workout, join the party and help raise money for charity!

Fitness instructor Lorraine Weir and five of her instructor friends (Emma Clark, Nicola Guitart, Heidi Schwick, Jo Travers-Brown and Immelda Pigg) are hosting a ‘Zumbathon’ at One Leisure St Ives in aid of Multiple Sclerosis Society UK.

This fun 5½ hour event takes place on Sunday 20th May from 10.30am to 4.00pm and everyone is invited to come and wear their best fitness gear or come in fancy dress. There will be a total of six classes on the day which are all led by different instructors giving you the ultimate Zumba party.

Lorraine was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1997 when she was a 29 year old mum of two young boys. MS is a debilitating disease that affects around 100,000 people in the UK. People with MS can experience problems with vision, balance, muscle spasms, muscle stiffness, and fatigue.

Looking back to when she suffered from MS, Lorraine said "For me this was a frightening time. In order to relieve some to the symptoms and increase my strength I took up swimming and joined the Impressions gym at One Leisure. Fitness changed my life dramatically and helped to reduce my symptoms. I’ve also met many inspirational people at the gym who have overcome many hurdles to achieve their own personal challenges. This inspired me to pursue a career in fitness to help others to achieve their own personal goals."

The group of friends are raising funds to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society UK to help them fund research into finding a cure for this debilitating disease. The charity has invested £133 million since 1956 and is spending another £1.7 million on research in 2012. They also provide MS sufferers’ with emotional, practical and financial support as well as providing advice and guidance to medical professionals on the treatment of MS.

To book your place on the Zumbathon please contact One Leisure St Ives on 01480 388500. It is only £10 to take part and all money goes towards Multiple Sclerosis Society UK.
