Opening of new play area

Love's Farm Play Area

A new play area at Love’s Farm, St Neots, which has been built thanks to the help of local children and residents, is to be officially opened on Friday 9 September 2011.

Councillor Jeff Dutton, Chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council will open the play area on Great High Ground between 3.15pm and 4.30pm, and all are invited to attend.

The opening celebrations will include face painting, and a chance to try out the new play area and learn about recycling in the district.

The area at Great High Ground incorporates a range of play features, most impressively a large play ship which provides a perfect lookout for budding pirates. Also on the site will be a large sandpit with a large basket swing and roundabout. The scheme has been designed to blend into the local area whilst allowing children to play safely close to home.

A public consultation event was held at Love’s Farm in May 2011, during which local children were encouraged to draw pictures, and stick stickers onto pictures of play experiences they liked. Some examples of their preferences were spinning items and natural features such as boulders and sand. This information was then incorporated into the final design.

The play area is the first of a series of areas to be provided by Huntingdonshire District Council using funding provided by Gallagher Estates as part of the planning process for the development. Each play space will be looked at carefully, and appropriate landscaping and play features used.

Councillor Jonathan Gray, executive councillor for environment said: “I am delighted with the new play area at Love’s Farm, St Neots. It is a great space that will allow children to socialise and interact with each other whilst having fun. It has been well designed taking into consideration the views of the local residents.”
