One Leisure Ramsey Games
One Leisure Ramsey held its first Games Festival to celebrate the countdown to the Olympics on Sunday 27 May 2012, in partnership with Huntingdonshire District Council’s sport and active lifestyles team.
Participants were able to experience a variety of fun and interactive sport sessions given by Ramsey COLTS, Ramsey Tennis Club, Ramsey Roadrunners, Ramsey Golf and Bowls Club, St Ives Aiki Dojo and Old Oundle Bowmen Archery Club.
The aim of the Games Festival was for local sports clubs to get together to advertise themselves to the local community. The public was invited along and receive information about the clubs and the activities or sports that they offer, whilst also having the chance to try out the activity on the day.
Councillor Tom Sanderson, whose executive responsibilities include sport and active lifestyles, said: “We’ve got a big year ahead of us this year with the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, and it’s great to see families taking this on board and attending the Games Festival. It is really pleasing to see our local clubs committing to such an event to provide participants with an afternoon of fun and enjoyment.”
Other sporting events for Huntingdonshire residents to get involved in prior to the Olympics include a Games Festival at One Leisure Sawtry on 24 June, the Olympic Torch Relay which visits St Ives and Huntingdon on 8 July and the Sports Festival in the Park at Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Huntingdon on 22 July.
The DASH project will continue to offer a wide range of sporting activities throughout 2012 and into 2013. For more information about the DASH project and what it has to offer visit the website by using the link on the right or contact the Sport and Active Lifestyles team on 01480 388858.
