Games Festival success
On Sunday 29 April One Leisure St Neots held its first Games Festival to celebrate the countdown to the Olympics, together with Huntingdonshire District Council’s Sport and Active Lifestyles team.
The main aim of the Games Festival is to get a variety of local sports clubs together at one venue and invite the local community to try out some activities and get information about the clubs and the sports they have to offer.
Over 100 people attended the Games Festival in St Neots, experiencing fun and interactive sport sessions provided by St Neots Crazy Skaters, Hunts Fencing, Tang Soo Do and Aiki Dojo, as well as other activities on offer such as trampolining.
Councillor Tom Sanderson, Executive Councillor for Healthy and Active Communities said: “We’ve got a big year ahead of us this year with the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games and it’s great to see families taking this on board and attending the Games Festival. It’s really pleasing to see all the clubs committing to such an event to provide participants with an afternoon of fun and enjoyment.”
Other sporting events for Huntingdonshire residents to get involved in prior to the Olympics include the Games Festival at One Leisure Ramsey on 27 May, Games Festival at One Leisure Sawtry on 24 June, the Torch Relay visits St Ives and Huntingdon on 8 July and the Sports Festival in the Park at Hinchingbrooke Country Park on 22 July 22.
