CCTV service to continue
Agreements have now been reached between Huntingdonshire District Council and the four town councils in the district to provide help with funding towards the running costs of the Huntingdonshire CCTV service, ensuring the service will remain in place.
There are 85 cameras across Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives and St Neots, and they play a key role in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. During 2011 CCTV recorded 1881 incidents, resulting in 351 arrests at the time of recording with many more arrests coming from footage reviewed retrospectively during investigations and follow up enquiries.
Sonia Hansen, Huntingdonshire District Council’s Streetscene Manager, said: “We are delighted that we can keep the CCTV service running, and will be working in partnership with the town councils and the police to run an effective service to help keep the community safe.”
