Did you know that Huntingdonshire is home to the sandwich?
The sandwich is named after the fourth Earl of Sandwich who lived in the 18th century at Hinchingbrooke House. The Earl is said to have worked and played (gambled) so hard that he often called for cold meat between slices of bread to be brought to him so that he didn’t have to stop to eat. The sandwich now takes many different forms and as part of the Huntingdonshire Food and Drink Festival 2008 we are on a hunt for the best sandwich that Huntingdonshire has to offer.
Residents, businesses, cafes and restaurants were challenged to create a winning sandwich as part of the festival. The four finalists will receive £50 each and the overall Huntingdonshire winner will win an extra £100.
Deadline: The competition is now closed.
The rounds
The four best entries in each town will be invited to prepare their sandwich for tasting by a panel of judges who will decide the four finalists. The four winners will then be invited to prepare their sandwich in a final heat at the Saxongate Centre on Saturday 27 September with judging at 2.30pm to find an overall winner for the best sandwich in Huntingdonshire.
Prize giving will take place at the Food Fest 08 Event at Wood Green Animal Shelter on Sunday 28 September where all four local creations will be on the menu!
